Question: What is the purpose of the duck race?
Answer: The Duck Race is a fundraiser put on by the Ketchum / Sun Valley Rotary Club and the Sawtooth Board of Realtors Charitable Foundation to raise money to support local scholarship, local charities and organizations including operating as the main fundraising mechanism for Blaine County Search & Rescue.
Question: Where is Rotary Park?
Answer: Rotary Park is off of Warm Springs Road on the left, across from the skate board park and just before the Warm Springs bridge. On Race Day you can follow the big yellow duck feet on the road from the center of town.
Question: How can we volunteer to help?
Answer: You can volunteer to assist with any Rotary project by coming to a Rotary meeting on Tuesdays at Noon at Rico’s on Main Street in Ketchum, or by contacting us via email!
Question: Can I hand select my duck(s) from the flock?
Answer: Ducks are assigned at random by a computer program just prior to the race.
Question: Can I wax my duck to speed it up?
Answer: There is no interaction allowed between ducks and their owners, and once the ducks are in the water, they are on their own.
Question: What is the average speed of a duck on the water?
Answer: That is directly proportional to the volumetric flow of the Big Wood river on the given day of the event.
